Commiphora spp.: On sites with more gravelly and rocky ground In the pre-Namib, pachycaul Commiphora species (family Burseraceae) dominate.
The pre-Namib is the transitional zone between the savanna-dominated Kaokoveld and the Namib Desert proper.
In the leafless state, the plants can hardly be identified to species level, but the plant shown may be Commiphora wildii C. Merxm. or C. saxicola Engl. both of which are common in this region (Becker & Jürgens, 2002).
